LASIK- examination

Alhamdulillah, i just went back from Dr. Yehia Eye Care Center, which is located in Maadi. The place is very very nice, kinda like a spa or villa.. No surprise, bcoz i was told it costed about 1.6million Egyptian Pound to set up the place.

I went there today to check whether i'm fit for LASIK procedure or not.. It's very important to do so because in some cases, for instance if your cornea is not thick enough, you can't undergo that surgery.

At first, the nurse did the normal procedure to check my eye power (the same machine they're having at optometry centers) and also the pressure inside my eye or as we medical students call it, intraocular pressure. I've never done this before, and I don't know how it operates, but it produces this small puff of air to my eye. It wasn't painful, but i flinched a little as the result of withdrawal reflex.

Then they bring me into this other room to do the corneal topography; a non-invasive medical imaging technique for mapping the surface curvature of my cornea to see whether it has normal curvature or otherwise.

The topographic image, to see the curvature of the cornea.

After that, the nurse put this eye drop into my eyes. At first i thought it was a mydriatic to widen my pupils. But then i started to feel numbness in my eyes. So i just assume that it was an analgesic or something. Then a doctor put this pen-like instrument and pressed it to my cornea. It wasn't painful, but i felt slight amount of pressure. But i didn't get to ask what was it for.

Alhamdulillah, Dr. Yehia then told me that i'm fit for the procedure. The examinations alone costed LE420, and the LASIK itself costs LE5000 (which is about RM3200). And i think i'm gonna do it after i came back from Malaysia to Egypt next month.

I know i'm gonna look weird and (relatively) hideous without glasses, since i've been wearing them since i was 15, but all of my friends who have had LASIK told me that it is a life-changing decision! So i thought, why not.. It's worth a try (^_~)

p/s: Thank u Kak Aniah & Farhana for agreeing to accompany me to the center, and special thanks to my parents for agreeing to pay for LASIK ;p

Em kalau power spek setakat 200 je berbaloi ke buat LASIK?

kalau jenis sporty n malas nk pakai spec lg, berbaloi la kot ;p tp elok tggu umur 24 gitu utk pstikan yg power dah stable, so tak akan naik2 lg..

Salam.

It's called Tono-pen.
Type of tonometer jgak.

As for LASIK, just something to ponder why don't ophthalmologist didn't undergo LASIK treatment? (most of them...)
hehehe....
