Sloppy doctors' handwriting kills?

I came across this interesting article at Time website saying that doctors' sloppy handwriting kills more than 7,000 people annually.

I dunno where did this stereotype come from, because not all doctors have bad handwriting, you know~ Or at least, mine's not =p

And to overcome this problem, they said they will launch a program to enable all doctors in the U.S. to write electronic prescriptions for free. It's called the National e-prescribing Patient Safety Initiative (NEPSI).

But the funny thing is that, there is a reason why most doctors are opting for pens and prescription pads instead of prescribing electronically in the first place!

I personally think doctors who are computer illiterate already outnumbered doctors whose handwriting is unreadable nowadays. And yet they still want to give some hi-tech device as a substitute for prescription pads ;p

But maybe this only happens to the old-school doctors. Young doctors and medical students nowadays are all experts on facebook and stuffs.. hehe

But what do i care.. I wanna be a surgeon (^_~) amiin

kalau ada rezeki iAllah =) not that i must, but i'd like to have the option.. and being a physician does not really provide that, due to differences in the drugs used there and also the language barrier.. u've gotta talk to patients a lot, rite?

but being a surgeon, u can fit almost everywhere.. u can't find people from different countries having appendix on the left side, can u? =)
